About me
I am passionate about empowering my clients to rediscover their own inner resources. I know it takes courage to seek support and show your vulnerabilities, and I feel deeply privileged to work with anyone who chooses to make this journey with me.
I have over 25 years’ experience helping people who have struggled with various mental health issues, such as:
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Stress
• Bullying
• Domestic abuse
• Gender identity
• Family/relationship breakdown
• Bereavement
• Hallucinations
• Self-harm
• Suicidal thoughts
• Trauma
I’ve spent most of my life living and working in Tameside, and value the many years I had working for the NHS at Pennine Care. I left psychiatric nursing and re-trained as a person-centred counsellor, because I strongly believe that this kind of talking therapy can offer long-term benefits to anyone, regardless of age, gender or background.
How I work and what to expect
My aim is to help you discover new understanding, develop greater resilience, and an acceptance of yourself. With these changes you can move forward when you may have felt stuck for some time. Our sessions will be guided by what is important to you, and we will work at a pace that is comfortable for you.
Although friends and family can be supportive, there are many reasons why talking to me as a trusted professional is different. You may find it difficult to be entirely open and honest with those closest to you. You may worry about how it will affect them or that they may treat you differently afterwards. You may even feel that you would be a burden to them.
As your counsellor I will listen without judgment and offer you acceptance and compassion. I will guide and support you to discover your own answers and make your own decisions. In this way, you can leave therapy with an improved sense of wellbeing, and greater confidence to face any new challenges that come your way.
